View of the signature cherry trees that line The Trails At Wolf Trap roads.

The land The Trails at Wolftrap is on was previously known as Hicks Farm with gentle rolling hills and a flowing stream. To meet the growing demand for houses in nice communities, The Trails at Wolftrap community was developed In the late 1960’s. It was developed by Theodore Learner, the original developer of Tysons Corner who was moving into residential development. Hicks Drive used to be the driveway for the old farmhouse and several streets such as Arabian Avenue, Bronco Lane, and Gelding Lane were named after horses. There were 96 family style houses in the original Trails development that later changed to 117 with completion of the Serenade section.

There were few trees on the Hicks Farm so the developer scheduled an allowance for tree plantings. One of the few original trees is near Massonoff Court. Some time during the 1970’s and early 1980’s, the homeowners joined together to plant trees along the drives. It is believed that Hicks Drive residents were the first to plant the cherry trees and the idea spread quickly to the rest of the community. The community arranged for a group deal on the cherry trees, which were bought and planted by the owners. Today, the multitude of cherry trees that line most of the streets in the community bloom with fantastic pink petals and provide a wonderful fragrance during the springtime.
